Leonard Covello, originally from Avigliano, Italy, immigrated to New York City at age 9 and grew up to become one of America’s greatest educators. Covello developed and instituted progressive community-centered educational programs characterized by close links between the school, the home, and the community, and are still a model for today’s educational institutions. He was the founder and first principal of Benjamin Franklin High School. He was instrumental in the inclusion of Italian education in New York City's public schools. Join us as we celebrate his legacy.
